Badgers

Welcome to Badgers' Class!

Mrs Greaves is the classroom teacher and Deputy Safeguarding Lead of the school.

Badgers is our Key Stage 1 class at Witchampton. It is a mixed-age class of Year 1 and 2 children where our learners are taught to be incredibly inquisitive, creative and eager to explore and enjoy their learning.

Each half-term we have a new topic to enable us to cover different areas of the curriculum. We utilise our resources to enhance our learning, blending traditional methods with imaginative approaches.

Our topics lend themselves to taking our learning outside to our Badgers area as well as to our Spiritual Garden and Outdoor Explorer area. Year 1 have the opportunity to have Outdoor Explorer sessions, based on forest school principles. This includes fun activities like den building, wildlife identification, singing campfire songs and enjoying hot chocolate by our lovely fire circle on our school grounds, whilst Year 2 embed their additional learning objectives and writing stamina.

We enjoy going on trips throughout our two-year journey in Badgers. Within our two-year cycle, we have been on a range of trips. Visiting the Planetarium, Ringwood Reptile and Raptor Centre and the Museum of East Dorset. We love being a part of the Witchampton community and our topics lend themselves to going out and exploring the amazing village our school is situated in. We visit the local farms, gardens, village hall and regularly go to church. We often invite visitors into our class such as local authors, bug visits/minibeasts, and loan resources from Museums.

In our classroom we love reading and making recommendations to each other. We look forward to going to the school library weekly, reading for pleasure as well as guided reading texts that teach a skill. The children enjoy teaching and inspiring each other with their own interests and work as a team. We have classroom monitors that change termly and celebrate each other's achievements.

We look forward to welcoming you to our small school with a big heart.
